"We need your help to save the Historic Bowen Building......"

There are two books written by members of the Mental Health Historic Preservation Society of Central Illinois.

The two books were written to preserve the history of the state mental health system in Central Illinois. The first book is called "Asylum Light" and it is the story of the three state mental hospitals that were in existance during the 20th century:

Peoria State Hospital (Bartonville State Hospital)

Galesburg Research Hospital

Zeller Mental health Center

This book is an expansion of the first book on the Peoria State Hospital. It
includes a history of the facility, more than just a history of dates and
events. It has many more personal memories and pictures. It seeks to
understand what really happened at the hospital during its fascinating history
and to do so as accurately as possible.
